Drillmec has made a donation to the construction of the “Pope Francis Well”, as the thousandth well drilled by Africa Mission – Cooperation and Development of Piacenza has been called as a tribute to the Holy Father.
The plaque which will be affixed to the well in Uganda has the following inscription: The "Pope Francis Well” on the 20th anniversary of the death of Don Vittorione (1994-2014) the friends of the Africa Mission and Cooperation and Development donate the thousandth well drilled to Pope Francis “to be closer to our brothers in Karamoja”.
The results of the collaboration
The collaboration between Drillmec and Africa Mission-Cooperation and Development began in 1983 when the first G-21 drilling rig arrived in Uganda.
Since then this partnership has accomplished some exceptional feats:
• 974 new wells drilled in Uganda (mainly in the Karamoja region) and in South Sudan;
• 1,576 interventions on existing wells: repaired and restored to working conditions;
• clean water for more than 2 million people, the project we have called “Water for life”.
